School to close as teachers protest wages, class sizes

Elizabeth Paulson, Staff reporter

Funding for schools is an important and heated topic. Teachers throughout the Seattle Public School District voted to strike on May 19 to advocate for smaller class sizes and higher wages for teachers. Educators are encouraged to gather in Olympia to protest.

Districts all over the region have already staged walked outs, including Marysville, Lake Washington, Northshore and Whidbey Island. Schools on the east side are planning their own walkouts in the coming weeks.

Because of the walkout, another day will be added to the end of the school year, making the last day of school for students June 16. Graduation and senior check out remain the same.
